About Me

I am an experienced, qualified Counsellor, accredited through the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  As a registered member of the BACP I have undertaken training in accordance the BACP requirements to practice as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist. I have also gained the experience, expertise and extensive client hours to be awarded and to maintain accreditation status.

I have specialist knowledge in bereavement, trauma and change, as well as significant experience in disability and mental health issues. I have worked with many clients, both long and short term, covering a very broad spectrum of complex issues. My work has often been with more mature people who can find it especially difficult to share their problems. This experience has given me considerable insight into the difficulties endured by older people. I have previous experience in working for a disability association as a welfare rights and information officer. I worked with clients from a variety of backgrounds with differing needs.

My counselling training was in Person-Centred and Humanistic Theory. I have also studied Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. I offer an integrative approach to counselling which means that I can be flexible in what I offer clients. I put the therapeutic relationship at the heart of the work and strive to see things from my client's point of view. I appreciate how hard it can be to take that first step into counselling and how important it is to choose someone you are comfortable working with.

I am a qualified Clinical Supervisor of Counsellors and Allied Health professionals. All Counsellors/ Psychotherapists are required to have Clinical Supervision on a monthly basis to ensure best practice, to support the therapeutic relationship and to maintain ethical standards.

I am bound by the BACP Ethical Framework, for good practice in Counselling and psychotherapy. As a practitioner, I am fully committed to my continuing professional development and regularly attend seminars and training days to ensure that I keep up to date with the latest developments in Counselling.
